Studies Related to Melamine Incident

چکیده
In September 2008, melamine contamination in milk and infant formulae raised global concerns about food safety in mainland China. The contamination resulted in an epidemic of renal calculi, especially among infants and children. According to a report from the Chinese Ministry of Health, 294 000 infants had been affected by the end of November 2008. More than 50 000 infants had been hospitalised, and six deaths were confirmed.1

متن کاملMelamine Impairs Renal and Vascular Function in Rats
Melamine incident, linked to nephrotoxicity and kidney stone in infants previously exposed to melamine-contaminated milk products, was unprecedentedly grave in China in 2008 as little was known about the mechanistic process leading to renal dysfunction in affected children. This study investigates whether neonatal ingestion of melamine leads to renal and vascular dysfunction in adulthood; and w...
متن کاملThe Melamine Incident: Implications for International Food and Feed Safety
BACKGROUND A major food safety incident in China was made public in September 2008. Kidney and urinary tract effects, including kidney stones, affected about 300,000 Chinese infants and young children, with six reported deaths. Melamine had been deliberately added at milk-collecting stations to diluted raw milk ostensibly to boost its protein content. Subsequently, melamine has been detected in...
متن کاملPlasmid localization and organization of melamine degradation genes in Rhodococcus sp. strain Mel.
Rhodococcus sp. strain Mel was isolated from soil by enrichment and grew in minimal medium with melamine as the sole N source with a doubling time of 3.5 h. Stoichiometry studies showed that all six nitrogen atoms of melamine were assimilated. The genome was sequenced by Roche 454 pyrosequencing to 13× coverage, and a 22.3-kb DNA region was found to contain a homolog to the melamine deaminase g...
متن کاملSynthesis and Thermal Degradation Studies of Melamine Formaldehyde Resins
Melamine formaldehyde (MF) resins have been synthesized at different reaction temperature and pH values. Different molar ratios of melamine and formaldehyde were used to synthesize the corresponding resins. The prepared resin samples were characterized by using molecular weight determination viscometry and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The maximum percentage of solid content (69.7%) was obt...
